A Memorial Weekend to Remember...

B-B-Q's, family, friends, cemeteries, new house dreams, and yard work... What's wrong with this picture? Nothing! It was awesome! Even the weather cooperated. It's just that we didn't do anything... well... patriotic. I mean flying the flag is one thing, and visiting graves of loved ones with flowers is another, but nothing "patriotic."

What I mean is, there are those who I love who have served our country, and have seen things no person of gentle heart and kind disposition should see. They have watched friends die in front of them. They have risked life and limb for my minor acknowledgement of the reality of the freedoms preserved by their bravery.

Teddy Roosevelt said, "This country will not be a good place for any of us to live in unless we make it a good place for all of us to live in."

That means I need to DO something!

So... what will I "do?" I have to start in my own little corner.... and hope that little seeds I plant will grow. If it doesn't make a better place for others to live, at least it will be for me. (How's that for egocentricity?)

Kids, kidlets and more.

So Dave and I were figuring it out that by the end of the year, our posterity will include: 17 children, 8 children-in-law and 16 grandchildren. That's 41! Only 6 years ago, when I met Dave, I had only 8; 7 kids, with one married.

Now that's exponential growth!

If certain projections follow our anticipation... in 5 years the numbers could increase to 60, and in 10 years -- 90. After that, within the next 5 years, it is possible for us to have great-grandchildren rolling in!

What a wonderful thing "joy in our posterity" can be!

At that point Dave and I will only be 67 and 58. That's still youg, right? Right?! Right?!!!

We love them all! What a blessing it is to have our Father lend us this experience so we can see a slight glimps into His roll as Father.

Now... I think I'd better get the calendar out again... Birthdays and anniversaries for this month are filling up fast!

Happy Mother's Day!

I ran. I cried. He voted. He tried.

Yesterday Dave and I both made great impacts in different ways.

Dave is the state deligate for our precinct. He helped to vote out Bob Bennett. That was an historic event because Bob had been a senator for about 18 years. There was a record-breaking 3500 deligates there, including Steve's Mom. It's always fun to see people you know caring about things that can really make a difference.

I helped sponsor and ran in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure - for breast cancer. It took me about 40 minutes to run/walk 5K. (Asthma kicked in, so I walked most of the second half.) I started in the front, and ended in the middle... well still sort of near the front...
I cried as I saw signs people had on their backs with names that said, "In memory of..." or "In celebration of..." Signs that said, "We walked with her twice, and now we walk FOR her." Pictures of breast cancer survivors, and many of them in the race as well.
I thought to myself, "There, but for the grace of God, go I!"
and fought back the tears the rest of the way.
Cheerleaders were chanting on the sidelines, "With mammograms and self exams... I am the cure."
Over 17000 people pre-registered, and many registered that morning. It was an awe inspiring site.

I don't know if you can see it... but there are runners as far back as you can see!

I ran. I cried. He voted. He tried.
